Background

James was born 27 August 1886 at Middleton, Laggan to James and Ann Anderson m.s. McBain or McBean, of Balgown, Laggan. His parents had married at Meadowside, Alvie on 10th January 1884. His father was described as a farmer.

In the 1901 Census James is living at Catlodge Cottage, Laggan with his parents and siblings – Alexander, William and Isabella. In the 1911 Census James is living at Catlodge, Laggan with his parents and siblings – William and Bella. His occupation is described as a “General Labourer.”

War Record

James died on 18th October 1918 aged 30 years just a few weeks before the end of the war. His brother William died in France while serving with the Cameron Highlanders on 4 April 1917 aged 22. It is believed that his brother Alexander served in the Lovat Scouts.
