Background
Ewan was born 20 September 1885 at Lynchat, son of Ewen and Jean Cameron (m.s. McAffrey) who were married at Alvie 4 June 1878. His morther, a widow, was living in Newtonmore at the time of Ewan’s death and his wife, Emily (m.s. Whiting), was living at Bramble Cottage, Newtonmore.
War Record
Ewan’s medal record, held by the National Archive, shows him having two service numbers 2230 and S/23935. The record shows his rank as Lance Corporal but that he was Killed in Action on 31 July 1917.
Also commemorated on the Kingussie and Insh Memorial in Kingussie Parish Church, Newtonmore War Memorial and on the family gravestone at Banchor Burial Ground.
