Background
Neil was born on 19 January 1892 at 13 Burndyke Street, Govan. His parents resided at Struan House, Kingussie at the time of Neil’s death. Neil had two younger brothers, James and Colin who also served.
War Record
Recorded on the War Memorial as being a trouper in the Scots Greys. He was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field and was Gazetted 12 June 1918. He died of wounds 20 April 1918 and is buried at Faubourg d’Amiens Cemetery, Arras.
1911 Census records Neil, aged 21, as being present with the Royal Scots Greys in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Neil had two service numbers. S/11343 for the 11th Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders and 3989 for his service with the 2nd Royal Dragoon Guards (Royal Scots Greys).
Records suggest that he was in the Argylls in 1914. We have been unable to establish when and where he received the Military Medal.
