Background
John was born on 5 October 1896 at 58 Carden Place, Aberdeen the son of William and Jane Catherine, m.s. Ruxton, McGillivray. John’s father’s occupation is given as farmer, usually residing at Gaskbeg, Laggan. His parents were married at Old Machar on 8 November 1894.
In the 1911 Census John is, at school, and living with his parents and his younger brother, Wiliam, at Banchor House , Newtonmore where his father’s occupation is farmer.
War Record
John went to France 2 September 1915. Died on first day of the Somme
He is also commemorated on the Kingussie and Insh Memorial in Kingussie Parish Church and on the family gravestone in Kingussie Parish Churchyard.
