Background
Richard was born on 27 November 1899 at High Street, Kingussie. Son of Margaret (Maggie) Paterson and grandson of James and Mary Paterson of Struan House, High Street, Kingussie where he continued to live as recorded in the 1901 and 1911 Census.
Prior to war service he was an apprentice blacksmith with Mr John Fraser, Kingussie.
War Record
Richard died on 20 July 1918 Killed in Action, aged 18 at Epernay. He is now buried at La Neuville-Aux-Larris Military Cemetery. His body having been exhumed from Jonchery-sur-Vesle. CWGC burial return states that his remains were identified by part of a disk and his uniform.
Richard is likely to have been killed in the fighting at The Battle of the Tardenois, 20-31 July 1918 a part of the Battles of the Marne.
