Background
Alexander was son of James and Jane Campbell, of Kingussie born on 4th May 1915 at Drumguish, Kingussie. His father was a ploughman. His parents James Campbell and Jane m.s. Ross were married at Loch Ussie, Fodderty on 25th May 1906.
In the 1921 Census Alexander was living at Ruthven with his parents and and their ten children, including Alexander, in a house with four rooms. His father was described as a horseman.
War Record
Alexander landed in Normandy on 7 June 1944 (D-day +1). He died north east of Caen on 18 July 1944 during Operation Goodwood. The 5th Cameron Highlanders were part of the 51st Highland Division. He was initially buried at Colleville and reburied on 11 June 1945 at Ranville British Military Cemetery.
