Background
Duncan was born on 29 May 1919 at Etteridge, Newtonmore to John Grant, who was described as a surfaceman, and Elsie Ann m.s. Fraser. His parents had married at Bogroy, Carrbridge on 15 April 1898.
At the 1921 Census Duncan was living with his parents and siblings at Inchlea, No 1 Railway Cottages, Etteridge. His father is described as a surfaceman with the Highland Railway Company and his older brother Ian was a signal man. At that time Duncan had two older brothers and four older sisters.
The family home at the time of Duncan’s death was Kerrow Cottage, Kingussie.

Died 13 May 1940. He was buried west of Nancy in the Choloy War Cemetery.
