Background

Robert was born on 11 April 1921 at 50 Raeburn Place, Edinburgh to Robert Edward Ramsay, Electrical Engineer, and Ann Ramsay m.s. McEdward.  His parents married in Edinburgh on 19 July 1918. He had a brother ‘Billy.’

The 1921 Census shows Robert living with his parents Robert, an Electrical Engineer with St Cuthberts Coop Association, his mother Ann and his maternal grandfather, Lachlan McEdward, at 50 Raeburn Place in the Parish of St Bernard, Edinburgh. The Census also shows that Ann Ramsay m.s. McEdward had been born in Kingussie. At the time of his death his parent were living at Corrieshellach, Kingussie.

The deaths of Robert’s parents were registered in Kingussie, his father in 1951 and his mother in 1967 and they are buried in Kingussie Cemetery.

War Record

A writer for the Liverpool Scottish Museum suggests that Robert served with the Liverpool Scottish, the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. This joint service is confirmed in the records of the Scottish National War Memorial. He is believed to have died of gun shot injuries to the head on 23 March 1944 at Dhond, India. 

His grave has the family inscription
