Background
James was born 8 March 1886 at Geddes Mills, Nairn. He was the son of Jonathan McDonald (Meal Miller) and Jane (m.s.McKenzie) who were married at Delnies, Nairn on 20 December 1883. In 1898 James’ family moved to a new house at Glengarry, East Terrace, Kingussie and in the 1901 Census James was described as a Tailor’s Apprentice and in 1911 as a Tailor Maker in Kingussie.
James MacDonald, age 28, and Isabella (m.s.Cameron), aged 20, were married at 26 Bank Street, Inverness on 23 May 1914. At the time of their marriage James was living at Glengarry, East Terrace, Kingussie.
At his death James’ wife, Isabella Macdonald was living at 3 Mill Road, Nairn. In addition to his brother, William who also died, James had four sisters Catherine, Jane (Jeannie), Mary and Williamina.
War Record
Originally he was aLance Corporal in 4th Camerons but died as a Corporal in the 7th Camerons, Killed in Action at Arras 28 April 1917 age 31. His brother Private William Macdonald died 14 April 1915 and is buried at Choques Military Cemetery.
